In Taiwan, if you want to learn midwifery skills, you must find a veteran midwife who is willing to pass on his/her skills. Tang, Kai-Lin chose to embark on this journey to learn from Wang, Hsiu-Hsia who has helped with more than 10,000 births, even as the midwifery culture is gradually disappearing.

Amidst the shouts of the expectant mother and the cries of babies, Tang learned how to assist with births while also bearing witness to the realities and paradoxes in the corners of society. Inside the old midwifery clinic, she saw a microcosm of midwifery and birth culture. This also spurred Kai-Lin to look back on the meaning of being a midwife.
