The age of AI is fast approaching. As we envision the future, human society may look just like scenes from a sci-fi movie, with flying cars, robots, and space migrations. Technology has brought countless unimaginable possibilities to life, yet only to slip away just as quickly. Fortunately, there are always people who carry the weight of time, leaving behind a "record"—a time capsule that captures the essence of society, culture, nature, and the force of life.
In the world of 0s and 1s, a digital close loop is created, yet beyond the binary system lies a radiant spectrum. Through their cameras, documentary filmmakers preserve these precious moments: humanistic techniques, natural landscapes, life ethics, sustainable ecology, and the pursuit of dreams. The New Taipei City Documentary Film Award has stood by these filmmakers, who have weathered the storms and contributed behind the scenes. Over the past 14 years, we have offered filming funds, professional guidance, and platforms for promotion and screening. Moving forward, we will continue to walk alongside creators on this journey.
This year, we celebrate the birth of many outstanding works: The Rover set in the mountains and forests; The Wi(n)dow, a magical journey of mourning; When the Rumble Sounds Again, tracing the steps of a motorcycle stunt team; Nomads of the Island, exploring the sense of belonging; A Prayer, highlighting the resilience of life; Mended Together, stitching together the fragments of our memories; The White Waters, portraying the daily life of a transnational marriage; The Wandering Nationals, capturing the post-immigrant generation’s self-discovery. Other works include Childhood In Between, a journey of cross-cultural growth; The Long Departure, a story about a rainbow family; Those Left Behind, following the bereaved on their path to self-healing; Between Farewells and New Beginnings, focusing on women in single veteran dormitories; and Solar Power Revelation, revealing the power behind green energy.
These heartfelt stories, coming from diverse regions and perspectives, have been brought together by the New Taipei City Documentary Film Award, offering the public stories that touch the soul. New Taipei City will continue to strive, with its commitment to being a film-friendly city, to deliver more moving stories, record history, and shape the future.
