2026 Awards

Documentary filmmaking is a process of continued observation, patience, and documentation. Filmmakers enter different lives and places with their cameras, capturing fleeting moments as they unfold through repeated filming and the passage of time. In doing so, they preserve the images and memories of our era. Their work records a wide range of lived experiences, cultural landscapes, and social realities, giving us the opportunity to see New Taipei City and Taiwan from different perspectives.
For the past 16 years, the New Taipei City Documentary Film Award has remained committed to openness and diversity. It welcomes works from all regions and on all subjects, while allowing filmmakers to retain the copyright to their own work. Creators are encouraged to explore a wide range of subjects freely and from different perspectives. Through production grants, professional guidance, and continued support until each project is completed, the New Taipei City Documentary Film Award has become one of the most important sources of support for documentary filmmakers in Taiwan. It also promotes these works through public screenings and international exchange, enabling their stories to cross geographical, linguistic, and cultural boundaries. As they meet audiences in cities around the world, more images and stories from Taiwan are brought to international attention.
The New Taipei City Documentary Film Award has reached Cannes in France, Boston in the United States, Vancouver in Canada, Singapore, Thailand, and other destinations. Its participation in international film festivals has strengthened its global visibility and created opportunities for filmmakers to bring their work to audiences around the world. Dedicated New Taipei Day programs have also been presented at the Taiwan Film Festival of Boston and the Taiwan Film Festival in Thailand as part of its international brand development. These special screenings have deepened overseas audiences’ understanding of the Award and further established its international identity.
The value of documentary film lies not only in preserving the reality of the present, but also in ensuring that different life experiences are seen. The New Taipei City Documentary Film Award will continue to stand alongside filmmakers, helping more stories set out from New Taipei City and reach the world. It will remain a window connecting Taiwanese documentary filmmaking with international audiences, allowing the power of moving images to endure for generations.
