In 1980s martial law Taiwan, Western exchange students formed rock bands and unexpectedly became the first ever “foreigners” to release records in the Chinese language music industry. They sang in Mandarin, starred in TV shows, commercials and films, and joined with local musicians to pioneer Taiwan’s live music scene at a time when dancing was illegal. Taiwan’s music scene wouldn’t be the same without them, but now they are all but forgotten. This documentary goes in search of these forgotten pioneers to uncover lost stories from the early years of Taiwanese rock ‘n roll.
