2021 New Taipei City International Documentary Festival sets off on November 2 ! One month long festival will be online screening 28 International award winning documentary films of 4 themes from The Oscars, Venice Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival, Copenhagen International Documentary Festival, Hong Kong International Film Festival and New Taipei City Documentary Film Awards for all the documentary lovers!

Since first held in 2012, New Taipei City Documentary Film Awards has cultivated 98 talented directors and supported 107 award winning films to completion in its 11th year. Keeping its mind open and embracing diversity, the award itself has kept same spirit since it first stared with unlimited themes and regions, hoping to deliver a diverse yet creative power to the whole world. - Chang Ai Jin, General Director of Department of Information, New Taipei City Government

 

This year, The 2021 New Taipei City International Documentary Festival has transformed to online screening due to the pandemic, yet it doesn’t bother the wonderful selections. Beside a must-see series “Gold Award Recommendation - International Documentary selection”, this year has arranged 2 programs with “Travel” themed - “Travel With the Lens” and “Green Dining Table” to bring audiences walk in and enjoy landscapes and experience cultures through documentary films.

 

General Director Chang Ai Jin also specified that 11 award finalists cover abundant element which caught attention to all award judges, including indigenous youth who spark their lives - “Adju”, exploring tribal culture - “A Tayal” and “The Journey of Becoming Truku”. “Wind and View” that guides a route to discover culture and blood, “Vespas, Typhoons, and Diplomats” writes a page that has been forgotten in rock n’ roll history in Taiwan. “The Passage”, depicts how veterinarians overturn dairy farming industry, “Faces of a Taiwanese opera actress” a story taking close look of Taiwanese Opera Troupe - Shintrun to see the beauty of Taiwanese opera. “Always in My Mind” records deep bonding between HongKongese political prisoners and civil supporters. “Glad Rags” that sees a true face of nightclub agents. “Yong Shun Yong Ho” a life story and difficulties of a logistic driver and “Étude” - that describes how a fallen-apart family reunited and continues their story. 

 

Directors from all films listed above has also invited to join the after-screening talk to share their ideas and documentary making process, to deliver deeper emotion and experience of their own films.

 

General Director Chang Ai Jin says, New Taipei City International Documentary Award keeps moving forward to not only link up with the world but deepen local film making industries, and encourage directors to provide wider perspectives and vision to audiences. She’s also looking forward to seeing all award-winning films shine in International film festivals with showing soft power of Taiwan. 

2021 New Taipei City International Documentary Festival is free for all! To join the festival requires signing up to receive serial numbers. Beside “New Taipei City International Documentary Award winning films”, other program limits 150 numbers opening until fulls. Each programs are available during the period below: “Traveling with Lenses” opens from October 25 to November 7, and “Green Dining Table” opens from November 8 to 21.
