Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council has confirmed Jiupeng Village in Manzhou Township, Pingtung County, as the site of the country’s first national rocket launch facility, thrusting this remote village into the center of a national policy debate.
Despite having lost an arm, community association chairman Su Wei-Fu-Jen continues to guide the occasional visitors through the village, telling stories of its history and landscape. From formal public hearings to standing before tourist maps, he moves between two worlds: on one side, the nation’s blueprint for future development; on the other, the preservation of local memory.
As villagers debate the arrival of the spaceport, Su voices both support and concern. A guide who has spent years telling stories of the past now finds himself facing a future filled with uncertainty.
As that future draws closer, all he can do is keep talking—insistently giving voice to the history of this place. Through his perspective, the film follows a village on the margins as it searches for its place in the present, caught between past and future, memory and development.
