Hsieh Li-Lan, the Deputy Director of New Taipei City Government Department of Information, led a delegation to the United States and attended a post-screening discussion with directors Huang Shu-Mei and Lin I-Ching. Hsieh Li-Lan stated that the New Taipei City Documentary Award, now in its 15th year, has supported over 150 works and accompanied countless directors from New Taipei City on their journeys to the international stage. "New Taipei City Day" also symbolizes New Taipei City's commitment to continuously deepening exchanges with international documentary festivals and promoting cross-border exchanges and cooperation, allowing international audiences to see Taiwan and New Taipei City through documentaries.
"Solar Power Revelation," directed by Huang Shu-Mei, explores the ecological changes and local impacts of energy policies. Huang Shu-Mei expressed her gratitude to the New Taipei City Documentary Award for providing creative space and resources, allowing her work to be screened internationally. In "When The Rumble Sounds Again," director Lin I-Ching and co-director Lin Huan-Wen recreate the glory of Taiwan's motorcycle stunt teams in the 1970s, allowing these precious images to speak to the world through this film festival.
This year's Taiwan Film Festival of Boston, themed "Entanglement," featured seven screenings of 10 Taiwanese films from September 19th to 25th, with the opening ceremony held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA Boston). There was lots of lively interactions between the audience and directors in the post-screening of New Taipei City Day. In addition to the physical screenings, online screenings will also be held from September 26th to October 12th, allowing Taiwanese film stories to be seen by a wider audience.
The Department of Information stated that the New Taipei City Documentary Award is actively expanding its international reach, and this year, seven selected films were screened at the Vancouver Taiwan Film Festival in Canada for the first time. In addition, the Department of Information team also visited the Massachusetts Film Office and the Harvard Film Archive to observe local film support services and venue operations, learning from them for future film and television promotion in New Taipei City and continuing to build New Taipei City into a film-friendly hub and a base for international cooperation.
