According to Department Director Lee, Li-Chen, the New Taipei City Government provides comprehensive support for documentary creators—from funding and production to marketing—serving as the most steadfast partner for filmmakers.
Now in its 16th year, the New Taipei City Documentary Awards have continually discovered outstanding documentary talents and potential projects. Over the years, the program has invited veteran filmmakers to offer mentorship, assist in film screenings, and promote awarded works. To date, the initiative has supported more than 140 directors and over 150 documentary projects, establishing itself as the cradle of Taiwanese documentary production.

The 2026 edition continues to uphold the spirit of “no regional restrictions, no thematic limitations, and copyright return to directors,” aiming to remain the most supportive and open submission platform for documentary professionals in Taiwan.

The Department also noted that the 2026 New Taipei City Documentary Awards will once again collaborate with the Chi Po-lin Foundation to present the Chi Po-lin Environmental Documentary Award, inviting submissions focused on Taiwan’s environmental issues. The initiative seeks to raise public awareness of environmental sustainability through the power of film and welcomes participation from all visual creators.

Submissions open on January 1, 2026, and close on March 2, 2026. Applicants must provide a project proposal, a trailer or teaser under three minutes, and a portfolio showcasing the director’s past works.
